Return of legendary ‘Ngap Sayop’ echoes to boost state team

KUCHING: A new chapter of the Malaysian League in 2011 will see the return of the legendary war cry ‘Ngap Sayot’ echoes at the Sarawak stadium as the state team breath a new life to gain promotion into the Super League.

Brimming with confidence that the state team for the upcoming season are much better than the previous years, Datu Sudarsono Osman, president of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) even in jest added that it would be hard for the coach to select the first eleven from the ample pool of players in his hands.
“This is a public statement of our commitment to the state football, the seriousness on bringing the team to glory as well as raising the hope and expectations of the fans and the public,” said Sudarsono.
Heading the management side of the FAS, Sudarsono also gave his assurance that they would try to meet the needs of the team for their preparation such as the seven pre season matches to be played in Semenanjung Malaysia.
With a strong management this, said Sudarsono, creates a sense of confidence especially among the players who came in for the trials, which are of better quality and aplenty.
Meanwhile, Zaki Sheikh Ahmad, the state head coach has given assurance that the team are on the right track in preparing for the 2011 season.
“I am honoured to be on a team that are eager to bring back Sarawak’s football glory. This is a true Sarawakian team and spirits,” enthused Zaki.
He also said that Sarawak would now have double strike forces upfront with the like of Bobby Gonzales who among the other local imports that can play alongside and support Sarawak’s last season top striker, Zamri Morshidi.
In their match against Bintang Bola ERA at the State Stadium yesterday, the state team won 2-1, with goals from Zamri Morshidi and Benedict Martin.
The solitary goal from Era was however scored by Suwadi Kederi in the second half.
It was also announced that Era FM would be partnering with FAS to air Sarawak’s home and away matches.
