KUCHING: Sarawak are fast developing into a fine team under coach Robert Alberts as they played good and effective football to annihilate a hapless MP Muar 6-0 at the State Stadium yesterday.

The victory saw Sarawak chalk up their target of gaining their second consecutive home win.

Alberts, who looked non-plussed after the match, said the big victory was owed to the players whose maturity and understanding of the game helped them take total control of the match.

The young players as well as the older players all raised their game as they produced their best form in Albert’s seventh match in charge.

Young players like Asri Chuchu and Azizan Saperi were full of dash yesterday while older players like Wong Sai Kong also showed maturity to dominate in midfield.

“The team are now beginning to show good understanding of the development of football while the strikers Zamri Morshidi and Bobby Gonzalez are developing into a fine attacking pair.

“Young players like Asri or Azizan Saperi are fast improving and today Asri showed he can score goals while the first goal by Zamri was a beauty from a move and combination with Bobby.

“Sai Kong who is one of the older players also showed maturity to dominate in midfield.

“We played one of our best matches as Muar had beaten us 2-0 in the first round and we have also scored 11 goals in the last two matches which is a good achievement.

“For the first 15 minutes, we started off with very good and effective football which was spoilt by the serious injury to Bobby and the Muar keeper which effected the players composure.

“With two goals up in the first half, I told the boys to go out and put more pressure which resulted in more goals.

“Today, the team also showed more improvement with more width and more depth which is the best so far although the players still have to improve on closing down opponents faster.

“They still did not close down fast enough and allowed opponents to pass through. This will be dangerous against strong teams,” said Alberts.

The Dutchman said he also enjoyed the sight of the fantastic fans who showed their support and felt more fans must come to see their team play.

“Sarawak will continue to play good football and keep on winning and the fans should enjoy it,” said Alberts who expects to see a capacity crowd in the next home match against Pos Malaysia on Monday which is a public holiday.

From the kick-off, Sarawak signalled their intention to go for the goals earning the first corner from the word go.

Bobby missed a tap-in in the sixth minute from a quick run down the full length of the pitch by Mazwandi Zekeria who sent a teasing low ball to Bobby.

Sarawak did not have to wait long after this as the Bobby-Zamri combination clicked perfectly in the next minute with Bobby conjuring up a goal opportunity, lobbing the ball over the defenders for Zamri to slide into goal.

As Sarawak was picking up gear, Bobby had a nasty head-on collision with Muar keeper Sani Anuar Kamsani with both players lying on the ground for quite a few seconds giving anxious moments to coach Alberts who rose from his seat on the bench.

The play continued with the Muar keeper heavily strapped and that incident nearly cost Sarawak the match as Muar picked up a gear and launched incessant attacks.

In the 23rd minute, Sarawak escaped after Mohd Fitri Omar scuffed a shot while Mohd Nor Hakim Hassan also did not make it count with a hurried shot in the next minute.

Muar created a few more chances as they looked dangerous with their quick raids on the Sarawak goal, putting pressure on the homesters as Azizan Saperi collected the first yellow card on the 37th minute.

Then in the 41st minute, against the run of play Sarawak put the match beyond Muar’s reach with a third goal starting from a throw from goalkeeper Aidiel Mohamad.

Azizan, working his way down the right flank, sent a pass to Bobby who connected with the ball, slamming it into the net.At the restart, Sarawak again had a flying start as Benedict Martin sent a waist-high pass for Asri Chuchu to volley home just three minutes into the game.

Shahrol Saperi who came in for Azizan early in the second half then slotted in a penalty for Sarawak’s fourth goal in the 68th minute after Zamri was cut down in the box as the Muar defence went into pieces with Sarawak lining up their shots during a five minute spell.

Zamri had a one-on-one with the keeper in the 63rd minute but his curled shot hit the post and rebounded into play.

After that Bobby and Shahrol both came close as Sarawak players had total domination of the attacks.Bobby made it 5-0 in the 69th minute while Asri latched on to a pass from Khairul Esahar Edros to score his second and Sarawak’s sixth goal from an acute angle as Sarawak just enjoyed themselves in the last few minutes, with no pressure to score.
