Preview: SDM Navy Kepala Batas vs Sarawak FA, 9 May 2011, 16:45, Stadium Negeri Batu Kawan, Pulau Pinang

Sarawak FA have been struggling with the field condition in MBPJ stadium with the hard ground (after a week of bad weather and start of dry season) and blinding lighting as most of the season games was played in the afternoon. Not to give this as the excuse of the draw at Sime Darby, but schedule wise, a deserved point at MBPJ Stadium as it is important not to drop points away from home this season if we are to catch the league leaders, PKNS.
Upfront, we might not have any problem as the team leading goal scorer, Bobby Gonzales already scored a total of 13 goals out of 39 overall goals. With Zamri sparring the attack as he is the current leading assist for the team, shows a lot of improvement lately with him wearing the captain armband around his arm, which is heavy task indeed. He has been a bit jaded lately due to the tight schedule, hoping for our captain to recover soon.

Our promising winger, Ashri Chuchu has been impressive lately with his dazzling runs either it’s from the left or the right wing. He is indeed the player to watch in the coming years. I believe if we can maintain the upfront form, we are indeed going far this season.

As the midfield concern, I was looking at the game against Sime Darby recently, Sarawak midfield has been struggling to keep the ball and distribute it nicely to the flanks. Maybe it’s the tactic by the coach to conserve energy, or they might have been showing some tired legs out there, but we kept on losing the midfield battle especially with the aggressive teams. Hopefully they will improve this as soon as possible as we cannot go on like this if we can’t start to defend and attack from the midfield. The combination of Wong Sai Kong & Benedict Martin, show some improvement in the second half but still can’t relieve the pressure to the back line where forced to work hard. Currently, on the bench we have Abg Za’afari, Syaiful Sabtu who can play in the center of midfield.

Defence wise, Hairol, Sharizan  & the two full-back, Dzulazlan & Mazwandi too shows signs of tiredness with the non-stop attack by SDFC last Friday. Dzulazlan was more susceptible to attack as he can’t deal with the pressure from the attacking SDFC wings. I believe he needs to up his game, as I can see from the Harimau Muda game, he can’t deal with opposition pressure tactics. He needs to calm down and hopefully we’ll see more from this young lad. Roslan Ismail in the making, I believe.

Hopefully the team recovers in time and I think, Robert Albert might rest some players for the SDM Kepala Batas game, as we can’t afford to lose the big names before the big game against PKNS. Not to underestimate, SDM Kepala Batas, but this might be the platform to see other combination in midfield and who can do better in defence. A good game to rest some players and a good game to try new strategies.

SDM NAVY FC (SDM) is registered under FAP based in Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang. Team was promoted from FAM League to play in this year Premier League.
Currently SDM Navy sits at the second bottom of the table just before their elder brother, Penang FA. With only one win this season, SDM is one of the clubs being bullied by the big boys in the league. Having conceded 16 goals in the last 5 games and scoring only 4 goals, this team is one contender to drop back to the FAM league next season alongside their brother club, Penang FA. In the previous match against Sarawak FA in Kuching on 14 February 2011, Sarawak beat SDM Kepala Batas with a margin of 3 goals scored by Bobby Gonzales (2) & Zamri Morshidi. SDM would like to forget the 5-0 & 6-0 trashing by PKNS & KL Pos recently. Expecting SDM will do fight until the end in order not to get bullied by Sarawak, but I don’t think the team have the depth of squad to compete with the big boys. I’m going for a Sarawak win even with the big change in line-up.

ALL THE BEST TO SARAWAK FA! All of Sarawak is behind the team. Let’s pray for a maximum point in Penang and hope this  morale boosting win will be a good platform before we meet PKNS this Friday. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
To all the away supporter in Penang, come to Batu Kawan to support your team this Monday, 4:45pm at Stadium Negeri Batu Kawan, Pulau Pinang. If not us, who else? SERAWAK sampey ku mati!
