FAS sending letter to FAM to voice concern

KUCHING: The Sarawak FA has send a letter to the FA of Malaysia (FAM) yesterday expressing their concern ovr a proposal to reduce to number of Super League teams from their current 14 to 10, thus rendering the promotion efforts by the Premier League teams like Sarawak null and void.

Sarawak FA president Datu Sudarsono told the press after the match between Sarawak and USM at the State Stadium that FAM will make a wise decision and not make any changes to the rule which would have rendered Sarawak’s promotion efforts useless.

“The proposal by a subcommittee of the FAM is just a recommendation but we are very confident FAM will make a wise decision.

“We have no objection if such a proposal is implemented for 2013 as it will be before the season start,” said Sudarsono.

The FAS president, however, did not let that report of the proposed change spoil his mood as he said with Sarawak’s promotion to the Super League after their latest 4-1 win over USM which gained them a total 43 points, securing a second position in the League, the FAS planned to have a “Pre-Gawai” celebration but did not elaborate on the details.

“Its a good feeling not having to wait until we complete the fixtures to win promotion and we owe it to the coaches from Zaki (Sheikh Ahmad) who laid the foundation and Robert (Alberts) who provide the finishings.

“The team are very determined and we are looking forward to playing in the Malaysia Cup first and then the Super-League,” said Sudarsono after he was hoisted by the jubilant players and officials after the match before hundreds of fans who stayed behind.

“This is a great start and we have to set a benchmark for ourselves before we take on the Super League teams as the standard are different” The FAS president also said he was confident Sarawak will have the resources to launch their challenge in the Super League as the support by the corporate bodies in coming forward to support the FA in the local leagues have shown that they will likely support the team after their successful showing in the Premier League to win promotion to the highest level in Malaysian football.
